Experience beauty and hospitality beyond your expectations in this 1904 Colonial Revival mansionThe Edwardian Inn was built in 1904 by the Clem Brothers of Fordyce, Arkansas, and is an outstanding example of the fine homes built in Helena around the turn of the century.
The quartersawn oak paneling that is used extensively throughout the house probably came from local sawmills. At that time there were over twenty mills in the Helena area as this was then considered the hardwood capital of the world. The mantels were made in Chicago by expert craftsmen and there were nine in the home originally and eight still remain where installed. The other had been severely damaged and now serves as the registration desk.
The first floor is noted for the beautiful wood carpeting which was imported from Germany. The detail work in the flooring is outstanding and features numerous different types of woods. Most of the door and window hardware is original to the house as are the transoms above the doors and on the front and side entrances. All rooms have individual controls for the heating and air conditioning as well as ceiling fans. Each guest room has a connecting private bathroom.
Helena was the scene of a battle (one of several for control of the Mississippi River) on the same day as the Battle of Gettysburg. There are several battery sites located in the area, one of which is directly adjacent to the Edwardian Inn. The Confederate Cemetery, which serves as the final resting place of several Generals, is located in Maple Hill Cemetery on the north side of town.
Downtown Helena has numerous antique stores, gift shops, restaurants, and The Delta Cultural Center. Nearby is The Phillips County Museum and several historical churches. St. John's Episcopal, St. Mary's Catholic Church and Centennial Baptist Church (currently under restoration).
